We can tell you if you were exposed to PFAS.
If your water supplies were contaminated with Forever Chemicals and you have suffered one of the signature injuries, please complete the qualification form.
A recent government study estimates nearly half of America's tap water could contain toxic "forever chemicals" known as PFAS. These chemicals have been used in many everyday items, like nonstick cookware and cosmetics. They are also for professional use, like airport firefighting foam. These chemicals eventually find their way into water, soil, and air, exposing millions to their carcinogenic effects.
You do not need to have worked on a military base to qualify. Many different people have been exposed. Our law firm is representing individuals who have been exposed to PFAS and have developed cancer and other illnesses without knowing that their water was contaminated.
PFAS chemicals are designated as a “forever chemical.” Their chemical makeup makes PFAS chemicals extremely resistant to degradation, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
While this status makes them useful as the basis for Teflon, non-stick chemical coatings, and other purposes, it also makes them nearly impossible to dispose of, whether in the human body or environment.
PFAS may be ingested by humans in a few different ways, including contaminated water sources such as those found near many military installation bases. When humans ingest, absorb, or breathe dangerous levels of PFAS chemicals, serious health consequences may result.
In a significant move, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has introduced the first-ever federal limits on perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in public drinking water. Known as 'forever chemicals' due to their persistence in the environment and the human body, PFAS have been a growing concern for public health. Found in a wide array of consumer products—from nonstick cookware to cosmetics—and in the water supply, these chemicals have been linked to various health issues, including cancer, immune system effects, and developmental delays in children. The new regulations aim to mitigate these risks by requiring water utilities to filter out specific PFAS compounds, marking a critical step towards safeguarding public health.
The EPA's decision targets six PFAS chemicals, setting stringent limits for two of them (PFOA and PFOS) at 4 parts per trillion each in drinking water. For four other chemicals, the agency has proposed combined limits, with measures to be taken if their concentration reaches 10 parts per trillion. This regulation is poised to prevent thousands of deaths and reduce the incidence of serious illnesses attributed to PFAS exposure. Utilities are given a timeline of three years to test for these chemicals and an additional two years to comply with the new standards, highlighting the urgency and importance of addressing PFAS contamination.
Despite these advances, challenges remain in comprehensively understanding and managing PFAS exposure. The lack of nationwide testing for PFAS in blood makes it difficult to assess the full extent of exposure and its health implications. Studies have linked PFAS to a range of health problems, including high cholesterol and increased risks of several cancers, though research is ongoing to uncover the full scope of their impact. Particularly concerning is the vulnerability of fetuses and infants to these chemicals, underscoring the need for continued vigilance and research. The EPA's regulations represent a crucial step forward, but the fight against PFAS exposure and its health risks is far from over.
